Will Palestinian Statehood Bring Peace?

In PALESTINE on April 27, 2010 at 04:02

This is a big question and not an easy one to answer.

I long for an independent state as much as any Palestinian. But a two-state solution is like the quest for the Holy Grail, the golden fleece or King Solomon’s mines. It is highly unlikely, if not impossible.

To understand this, a brief history review might be helpful:

  • The 1993 Oslo Accords offered Palestinians self-government. They established the Palestinian Authority (PA) as the governing body, under the leadership of PLO chief Yassir Arafat and represented primarily by Fatah, its largest faction. In addition, Israel agreed to a phased withdrawal of its settlements from the West Bank and Gaza.
  • The United States and other foreign governments financed, trained, armed and equipped the PA, whose mandate was to secure and maintain peace in the territories. Arafat accomplished this by systematically imprisoning, torturing, and/or killing nearly every member of Hamas. The rest went underground. And by the end of 1996, Hamas was all but dead.
  • But peace negotiations broke down, and Israel and the PA were at each other’s throats. So Arafat resurrected Hamas to spearhead the Second, or Al-Aqsa, Intifada. He was the Puppet Master, fighting Israel safely from backstage. He got others to light the fuse, then accused them of blocking the road to Middle East peace. It seemed like a win-win plan.
  • It wasn’t. Hamas was in its element on the Palestinian streets, and it had a score to settle with the PA. In those days, Hamas was still a small organization—a handful of underground cells, executing suicide attacks and launching missiles. But that would change radically.
  • In January 2006, when the time came to elect members to the Palestinian Legislative Council, Hamas decided to run. It won—74 seats to Fatah’s 45—and expected to rule. But how? Hamas was on the list of terrorist organizations throughout the world. And those nations refused to recognize its political legitimacy.
  • Historically, Hamas had always refused to negotiate with Israel or compromise with the international community. Its single-item agenda was the obliteration of Israel. Not surprisingly, the PA refused to let Hamas run the government. The inevitable clash of ideologies came the following summer in a bloody two-day coup.
  • When the dust settled, Hamas was in total control of Gaza. That’s because the PA, a more visible target than the ghostlike Hamas, had become weakened, its infrastructure nearly destroyed, by its clashes with Israel during the second intifada. Hamas took advantage of the collapse of peace negotiations to secretly smuggle in huge caches of weapons through tunnels from Egypt and build an army bigger, better armed, more highly motivated and better organized than the PA. The PA didn’t see it coming. Neither did Israel, even though I had warned the Shin Bet a year earlier that Hamas was planning a coup. Based on information gleaned from my father and his conversations with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya, I had prepared a report. The Shin Bet took it seriously and passed it up the political chain of command all the way to Prime Minister Olmert’s office—where it was summarily ignored.

An independent Palestinian state is not a viable solution to peace in Israel or in the Middle East if for no other reason than that the Palestinian people are irreconcilably divided.

The Palestinians who live in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are under PA control. To make certain that Hamas does not get control of the West Bank, the PA and Israel are now working together to crush the movement there—arresting and imprisoning Hamas members, raiding their strongholds and confiscating their weapons.

Palestinians living in Gaza, on the other hand, are controlled by Hamas, which is doing to Fatah in Gaza what the PA is doing to Hamas in the West Bank.

Further complicating the politics and logistics of the West Bank are more than 200 Israeli settlements and outposts and the half million armed Israelis who occupy these posh fortresses. In 2005, Israel evicted 10,000 settlers from Gaza, nearly triggering a civil war. Israel certainly does not want to face a problem fifty times greater in the West Bank. Quite to the contrary, it seems determined to build 900 new housing units for Israelis in Palestinian East Jerusalem. In addition, right after Israel withdrew from Gaza, Hamas began to launch missile strikes. Gaza is a little 139-square-mile piece of southern real estate bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt and Israel’s Negev Desert. How much more damage could be done to Israeli cities from the West Bank, an area about the size of Delaware, within easy range of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other congested population centers!

These two Palestinian territories today are as unalike as East and West Germany during the Cold War, without the advantage of having once been an independent state. They have hostile governments (Hamas has not forgotten that the PA once imprisoned and tortured its members). Opposing armies with personal grudges to settle. Irreconcilable belief systems (Islam vs. secular). Divergent agendas (compromise vs. conquest).

So let’s say that Israel tomorrow decides to give the Palestinians their own state. Which state will it be? The state of Gaza or the West Bank?  Who should Israel, America and the international community negotiate with? The corrupt PA government or the fanatical Hamas government? If with the PA, what about the 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza? If with Hamas, what about the 2 million Palestinians in the West Bank? And what would happen to Israeli security with open borders and the strong likelihood that Hamas would use the situation to bring in more weapons and missiles?

There can be no real, lasting solution until there is a real and lasting peace. And that will never happen as long as Islam is part of the equation.

To Hamas, Islamic Jihad and more than 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide, the land called Israel today is an Islamic waqf, “an inalienable religious endowment.” It is a trust. Its owner is Allah himself. It cannot be bargained away or be allowed to be conquered by infidels. A waqf is nonnegotiable. And compromise is not part of the Muslim lexicon.

Declaring an independent Palestinian State may bring a temporary truce, but there can never be peace as long as there is Islam.

A diplomatic solution like statehood is too broad a brushstroke to bring peace. So are military and economic solutions. Because the problem is not political, cultural, or economic. And it’s not a logistical problem. Israel’s wall will not protect it from Palestinian suicide bombers any more than China’s wall protected it from the Mongols.

Let’s go even further. Let’s say that a miracle happens and the PA and Hamas become unified, and other insurmountable obstacles are surmounted. Will this bring peace to the Middle East?

Not as far as 1.6 billion Muslims are concerned. Not only is the land of Israel itself an Islamic trust, but it is also home to Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third most holy site after Mecca and Medina, as well as many other holy sites, including the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron where tradition holds that Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekeh, Jacob and Leah and Joseph are buried. The global Muslim community will never rest until it regains control over these sites.

The so-called “Palestinian Problem” is first of all a theological problem but ultimately an individual problem.

It is a theological problem because the god of the Qur’an demands nothing short of an Islamic world and the death or subjugation of every infidel (non-Muslim). It is a theological problem because the god of the Qur’an claims sole ownership of Israel and considers its Jewish inhabitants to be “pigs” and “monkeys.”

The biggest obstacle to the peace process was when Palestinians allowed their cause to be Islamized. And until Islam is removed from the equation, the problem will remain an unassailable Gordian Knot. Non-Muslim Palestinians need to stop fighting Israel and put their efforts into an aggressive campaign to expose the lies of Islam, thereby neutralizing the Islamic factions.

It is also an individual problem—not only in the Middle East but throughout the world—because every Palestinian, every Jew, every atheist, every Christian must decide for himself whether he will love and forgive or hate and avenge. The former will result in peace and life; the latter can result only in violence and death.

I realize that this too is not an easy solution. Just look in the Bible or a history book to see what love and forgiveness cost Jesus Christ. Anyone can hate and kill. But love and forgiveness are the stuff of heroes.

Of what value is a violent, vengeful, arrogant Palestine or a violent, vengeful, arrogant Israel? If one ultimately conquers the other, the net result is a graveyard.

  1. You statements are straight to the heart of the matter….There will be no peace in Israel until Christ returns in all his glory. Islam will be defeated when he returns to reign as King. Thank you for your astute observations. If only our leaders would listen………

    • Thank you for sharing with us. You bring to light what we do not know because our culture is so different from yours. Please keep doing the job God gave you to do and know I and others are holding you up in prayer for protection against the evil attacks. Keep your eyes on Jesus, take it one step at a time and remember the armour that was given to all Christians.
      Blood of Jesus on you.

  2. Thank you for your analasys, the Lord of all the earth and universe, JESUS CHRIST will finaly set the stage for HIS Kingdom, till then we will invite peace loving humans to trust and join the prince of peace. And follwo in HIS footsteps.

    Peter – Austria

  3. Good and thought provoking reflections.

    a) Do you, then, long for non-Islamic, Palestinian state to be established in Gaza, Judea, Shomron (West Bank)?

    b) If so, do you consider the modern State of Israel to be simply a modern political phenomenon, or does it have any Biblical implications?

    Grace & peace.

  4. Unfortunately, Mosab is probably right in his analysis. I appreciate reading about it, though. It’s interesting.

  5. Its true the greatest example is of our country…..we gave part of our beloved mother land to Muslims but..still no peace…

  6. I have found that “Peace” comes sometimes in the greatest storms.
Those are defining moments in life that you never forget.
Whenever I realized what Jesus meant and said about “Peace,”
I quit asking for a peaceful life down here.
However, he did promise peace in HIM. The way and road to Peace down here on Earth starts in our hearts ~ It is Jesus Christ.
“That in me you might have peace” John 16:33
I stand with you in prayer and agreement Mosab, I pray for the Middle East to know the Prince of Peace—-Jesus Christ.
Coming King ~ Ruler ~ and “Prince of Peace”.

  7. I thought il read this and see how well you can help your own people but u started off explaining bout palestine from 1993!!!! How about you talk about the creation of a state that was not there ISRAEL but OK i let that go and carry on reading then to realise you aren’t looking for a solution to help people. Your looking for someone or something to blame and you have found ISLAM to blame for your problems. And if you believe in all the terrorist propoganda look at the country your living in!! You couldn’t stand up to your dad and tell him to his face so now you are going behind ur dads back making whispers and lies shame on U!

    • not only can you not spell or write grammatically correct, your ideas are worthless. Joseph, a man of incredible courage and convictions, has explained the intractable nature of the problem. The fundamental question that must be addressed is whether the State of Isreal as a Jewish country has a right to exist? If the answer to you is no, the issue is over and there is no possible dialogue. Only if you can accept the premise, is there a way for reasonable people to determine how to acheive rights for all people in the region.

      • Hey roger acheatel – you have to be the most hilarious respondent on this thread. Who can’t spell?? YOU CAN’T, that’s who. It’s “Israel” not “Isreal.” Now the whole world knows your opinion is as accurate as your spelling. You probably just thought whatever you “read” was misspelled.

    • The state of Israel did exist dating back to 1400 B.C. In fact, it’s recent re-emergence came into existence only shortly after the current borders of today’s Middle East were established after World War I.
As for Mosab’s “problems,” he brought them on himself because he saw first hand the lies of Islam and its god. From his book, it sounds like he began to see them before he stepped foot in a Christian Bible study.
He doesn’t have to believe in the “terrorist propaganda.” He lived it!! He knows first hand what it’s all about.
And I am sure he would have loved to tell his dad face to face about his conversion to the “light of the world.” I’m sure God wouldn’t be using him to enlighten the world if he had. He would have been dead in a very short time. Maybe not from his dad, but someone else would have been glad to do it. How sad that his dad disowned him…..what a high price to pay for trying to do good as it sounds his father has tried to do.
Keep doing His work, Mosab and know that you are loved and prayed for everyday.

  8. What Arafat was doing in Oslo was just following Muhammad’s trick during the Hudaybiya treaty, which translates “Kiss the hand of your enemy until you can cut it off”.

As Muhammad would put it “If ever I take an oath to do something, and later on I find that it is more beneficial to do something different, I will do the thing which is better, and give expiation for my oath.” – Bukhari V4N361

  9. Mossab: We are in the last days. Whoever comes against Israel to destroy Israel will itself be destroyed. The Kind is coming soon. Tell as many people who will listen to come to Jesus and the look up for His coming.

All of what we are witnessing are foretold in Revelation. The prophecies have all been fulfilled. Be prepared. Peace be with you.

  10. There is NO peace aside from peace with God. Mohammed, you said that Mosab was looking for something or someone to blame and he chose Islam. With all due respect sir, I will tell you that he did not “choose” Islam, but rather God (not Allah) chose him! God brought clear spiritual sight to the eyes of Mosab! Many Muslims are seeing the corrupt and perverted life of their prophet. Many are beginning to think with their own minds. God is revealing Himself to these people, Mohammed, and He is sending His Son Jesus Christ to them in their dreams. Many fear for their lives when they believe Jesus. What kind of religion is this that kills it’s own and others for being “infidels”? I pray for you Mohammed. I pray for you to have peace with God. Allah wants you to shed your blood for him. Jesus Christ (God incarnate) shed His precious and holy blood for the sake of the whole world – and that includes YOU!

  11. –Will Palestinian Statehood Bring Peace?–
That is a complicated question to me.
But one thing is clear for believers about the end of all of this!
    (Revelation 11:15)
And the seventh angel sounded and there were great voices in heaven saying The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ and he shall reign for ever and ever!!!

    Aameen…

    • Wow….reading this verse gave me a chill and a smile. How I look toward that day, when the kingdoms of this world have finally become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ!

  12. Mossab, I agree with you 100%.There will be no peace until islam is taken out of the picture. Israel has bent over backwards many times to try and bring peace but they were again attacked.
The Lord Jesus is coming again and He will rule over all the world and every kneee will bow to the one true God.
    Blessings in Christ.

  13. Yousef,
You have very ably described the current situation and come to a reasonable conclusion. The situation is impossible. What if I was to point out that Yeshua identified this very “hotbed” of contention as the matter leading to the last great conflict? In Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, the writers of the three Gospels record separately their account of the question to Yeshua as to “When would these things be and what would be the sign” of His (Second) Coming.
Each of these accounts points out a great conflict that will require the followers of Yeshua to take quick action to flee Jerusalem and, for residents of the West Bank (Judea) to flee to the mountains and hunker down for a very great conflict is going to suddenly break out on this area.
It’s interesting that over 2,000 years ago He identified Jerusalem, not Paris, not London, not New York, and the West Bank, (Judea) as the final, great powder keg. You have capably given today’s assessment of what He identified 2,000 as the center of conflict that will eventually lead to His intervention and Return.

  14. I am in 100% agreement with this piece. One of the better ones I have read in a long time.

  15. Mohammad you failed to mention Mosab helped to save many Palestinians and Jewish lives; including his own Dad.

Amazing that you skipped that detail. You should of kept reading if you did not. Please continue to read and have an open mind.

As a westerner we don’t hate the Palestinian people, many of us do not understand you. Mosab’s book has helped many us to understand.I would venture to say the book has help to humanize the Palestinian people in the eyes of many. I don’t see you as people who just want to kill for the sake of killing anymore, I see a people misguided by the wrong God.
Please know we want to understand, not hate you.

We westerners know how to separate you –the Palestinian people from the God of Allah.
This book has NOT put you as much in a bad light as you think.

We have many free thinkers over here in America.
We truly want the best for the Palestinian people.

We pray for you —-it is that simple.
Praying for Peace in the Hearts in the Middle East.
One day all wars will cease, and it can’t happen soon enough for me.

A Westerner looking at the Middle East from the eyes of a Loving God, and the “Prince of Peace”—-Jesus Christ.

  16. There will only be Peace when the State of Israel is destroyed and Shariah Law is the Law of the Land. All you have to do is read the Hamas Charter – this is not rocket science folks.

Islam is Shariah and Shariah is Islam

We must protect and defend Israel

God Bless America and God Bless our Troops.

    America Akbar

  17. The only peace they will ever have is in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Until he returns there will be NO peace in the middle east. We have to expose Islam for what it is, the religion of satan. These people are in bondage to Islam and until they realize it and come out of the darkness they will never know what it is to live. God bless you Mosab for risking everything to stand up and speak the truth. We know what the ending is, God will protect Israel and bless those that bless her..

  18. Mohammed:

Can you do nothing better than throw ad hominem attacks on Mosab?

    • Mr Mohammed S, by your name I assume you are also a Muslim? I don’t know if you agree with Mosab’s argument, which I happen to agree with, but I would like to commend you for being willing to engage it and to consider more than superficial ad hominem attacks as a response.

  19. Dear brother, our Lord Jesus will bring the only true peace when He comes back. Until then, we must be faithful to fulfill the great commission & live a life that glorifies Him.

  20. THANK YOU for sharing your insight with us–may the good Lord bless and keep you and yours.

  21. Mosab your writting is easy to read and understand. Thank you for sharing with us. I totally agree with your analysis. There will never be peace in the Middle East as long as Islam exists.

The real question is how can we get Islam to break down enough to weaken its grasps on the people? Missionaries and Christian workers are trying to do that every day, however it is on a small scale and is not enough to effect overall change in the Middle East.

The problem is we have all been focusing on the piece of land called the Gaza Strip, when we should be foucing Islam. Well Mosab you have begun the discussion. I hope the right people in authority will listen to you.

  22. Thankyou Mosab
Once again you have explained so very simply something that we westerners have struggled to understand. If you ever feel like you have given up so much for so little, remember this…. Jesus is very very real and he really does love you and that through what you are doing, many people like myself would never begin to understand the suffering in the middle east letalone bother to pray for it. So please keep it up. The people of Palestine need you, even if they don’t know it and people like myself in the west need to hear your words of wisdom too. Zephaniah 3:17 God bless you

  23. Reading Ezekiel 33 – 39 suggests the enemies of God who call his land their possession will fight to the end to oppose the return of the people of Israel to the heritage God has given them. My answer is no, a separate Palestinian state will not bring peace, because 90% or so of the inhabitants will be muslim. Islam and their false claims about the people of Israel will never allow it. Until God crushes this false religion, there will always be war because their enmity is ancient and their lust for blood insatiable as displayed in the life of Muhammed in what he did to the Banu Qureiza and the Jews of Khaybar.

  24. Thanks, Mosab. Once again, the faith you’ve found in God has shed new light on a much misunderstood ideology. While Biblical prophecy does not bode well for Palestine as a nation, individuals can certainly find the truth. You’re living proof of it! Our mission as believers should be to inspire the end of hate and the beginning of compassion one heart at a time, and pluck the good fruit of the Middle East from the vine before she withers under her own weight.

    God bless.

  25. Mosab (Joseph) is the ultimate Truth Seeker! And he is sharing his Truth with the world. His bravery is the stuff of legends! I hope he knows how very many people admire and respect him!

  26. Mosab, you ask for feedback. Keep writing, dear brother. What many are saying is true – you are lifting the veil of confusion and allowing us to see clearly what is really going on in that part of the world. I believe evil spirits have wanted us to remain in the dark about the real situation there but now, hopefully, the time has come when the Holy Spirit is going to cast His light upon the whole Muslim world and Israel. I pray that millions will rebel in their hearts against the lies of Islam, and against the lies of a Judaism that rejects the King of the Jews! May countless numbers rush into the waiting arms of the Son of God’s love, before the Great Tribulation begins!
Mosab, I believe God is using you in this great and holy task. That’s why I want to encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing – it’s truly a great work, brother!
May the Lord provide you with all your personal needs as well.
God bless, and keep you – and all your family and loved ones in your homeland as well!
    Peter Prodromou

  27. Wow!!! Thank you Mosab. Besides the greater understanding of the conflict that you provide, you have given me something else of value… a renewed appreciation of the gift of Christ. I was born into a Christian family. I live in a Christian culture. I celebrate the Christian traditions, but I’ve never paid a price to do so. You have. Thank you for sharing your journey. I will, and have also asked others to pray for you as you go about “Kingdom” business, speaking the truth in love. I know the Holy Spirit is with you. God Bless you and all you are doing for His Glory!

  28. as well as many other holy sites, including the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron where tradition holds that Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekeh, Jacob and Leah and Joseph are buried…..Jacob wells are in Shekhem Nablus and Joseph Tomb is in Nablus (EAST) buried…..

  29. Thank u for attention, please prayer to christian in the world

  30. You have inspired me.

I am living in Indonesia, the largest muslim-majority nation in the world. The scale of the problem and what our nation needs is the same.

Let the gift of love be shared without force, but with real prayer (spirit) and action (truth).

    Hey… Sheikh… Isaiah 26:1-4

    Shalom.

  31. Thank you so much for this clear and so well put analysis! Please keep sharing what you think. Do you believe that an aggressive campaign can really make Muslims leave their religion? Or maybe they should just become more critical of it as the Christians are? After all we Christians do not take our Bible as dictated literary by God otherwise we would also have great difficulties with many passages! I for my part am rather pessimist about great numbers of Muslims leaving their religion. Religion is part of personal and national identity in such a deep way it is very unprobable a whole nation decides to leave it. Great individuals as you Mosab do but the majority? I can hardly imagine! What do you think? Please share!

  32. Shalom to all,
I like to quote what was said by Benjamin Netanyahu:
” If the Palestinians laid down their arms, there would be peace. If Israel laid down its arms tomorrow, there would be no Israel”

    and that’s very very true!!

The things is everything is too complicated that this will never end until Yeshua will come for the second time… and I believe as written in the Bible… everything surely come to pass…
So no point to side to anyone…. No Human can settle this problem… cause it should be that way till everything come to pass as prophesied in the Bible.
But as for me… if i have to choose of course without a doubt i choose Israel side as also written in the bible “I will curse whoever cursed Israel and bless whoever bless Israel and I will put MY NAME THERE FOREVER” and i definitely do not want to be cursed!! lol

    • Liana, but God also commands us to be rightous. It is very easy to say I side with Israel – you don’t need to question anything anymore. But will this attitude stand before God’s judgement according to the teaching of Yeshua? Open your eyes see what “Israel” is doing to the indiginous. Netanyahu’s slogan is misleading in many ways. First of all Palestinians do not have anything close to IDF to lay down arms like the other side could. There are some rockets and some suicide bombers plus kids throwing stones but no one really in comand. Second I guarantee you if they gave up violent resistence they would be no more. Already millions have been kicked out. Is that justice according to God? What a complete lack of understanding of what the message of the Bible is all about!

  33. I only hope that I have the “stuff” of Godly heros for Love does not come to me naturally, but by His Grace. Thank you for your book. It greatly helped my knowledge of history and much more.

  34. Mossab, I have read your book and now your latest piece describing the conflict between Palestine and Israel. Thank you so much for bringing clarity to the issue. Like with so many issues today, the only answer is prayer and trust in God. If only all people could just read and understand Genesis. All humankind( Christians, Jews, Muslims etc )is made in God’s image, which means We are not god. But he needs us to bring order out this chaotic world as he brought order into the world. We are called to be life-giving as He was life-giving. Genesis is really all we need. That one book says it all. I will pray that Muslim people come to know this, accept this and try to live it.

  35. Keep close to Jesus always! If you do that, you can’t side with anyone anymore. Everyone is right AND wrong. Everyone is fighting for a good cause and yet not. Why? Because we’re humans and that’s what we do if we don’t follow Jesus. If we follow him, we will only side with what he says. And he tells us to love his heavenly father, each other (without any exeptions)and, yes, even our enemies. So forget about sides and conflicts! For us there’s only love.

  36. I hope Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of the UK and now Special Envoy of the Quartet to the Middle East, has read your book – do send him a copy!

  37. Mosab,

I wanted to let you know that like so many others that have posted on your blog I too just finished reading your book and I will be praying for you and your family. I pray that you will continue grow in Christ through all of this. Your story of love and compassion that you found in Jesus is a testament to the transformative power of Christ working in a heart. You story is a huge encouragement, even those of us that grew up in a Christian home here in the USA.

    All the best,

    Matt

  38. PS: Did you ever find the girl? That was a pickle you were in.

  39. Dear Mr. Yousef,
I am not sure if you even read this, however, I just finished reading your book. I was so moved. Thank you for being so brave. I must tell you that my heart goes out to you, your sweet family and father. Your book does honor him and your humility is what truly impacted me as I read. The insight and unique perspective you offer is something that I have searched for in helping me to truly understand the middle east conflict. Especially what motivates these cultures. I have always believed that the majority of people on all sides want what we all want from life. To raise live and raise our families in love, safety, security, freedom and peace. This may seem idealistic, but this is the way Christ always taught. Freedom to choose him. Not force or fear. My prayers are for all those in the Middle East, all your family and you in all you do. Thank you for strengthening my testimony by helping me learn of others and sharing your story.

  40. I have been wondering what kind of “feedback” you’ve recieved from your former friends in the IDF?

  41. Joseph, an exceptionally well writing article.I have studied the Middle East situation quite a lot over the years and what you said is what I have heard and read. From the start I started my studies in the Middle East from the Bible and all this started with Abraham and Hagar.God knew this would occur.
The sad thing is that there is no solution only Almighty God’s solution is the only way that peace will come.
It is brothers fighting against brothers.Israel wants to live in peace and helps her neighbors when they are in need etc….However,it truly is a Testament to God’s power that Israel -(The land and the Jewish people)— have just celebrated her 62 birthday.Surrounded by all muslim nations that are intent on her destruction. However, anything that any nation or person does to Israel usually back fires on them.
I am listening to your interview from off your website.I have you on my IPOD now.Keep shining the light of Christ Mosab/Joseph and continue to be an inspiration.

  42. Bro. Mosab,

Keep gazing into the face of Jesus as you proclaim the truth about the struggles in the Middle East. When our Lord spoke the Pharisees of his time, he could be arguing the same points with the imams and mullahs of today.

The answers to Islamic hatred can be found in the Bible. May the Lord strengthen and empower you in the coming days and years. I will pray for you and your family during our National Day of Prayer

  43. Dear Friends,

Thank you very much for all of your comments, questions, encouragement and prayers! Be assured that either Mosab or I read every one and appreciate them. Because Mosab is traveling so much, promoting the book, he is unable to respond. But your voices are definitely being heard. Please be patient with the blog. We understand that there is a lot of time between posts, but they’ll become more frequent once the dust settles, if it ever does. Plus, Mosab is more concerned with quality than quantity. He wants to post only when he has something important to say.

    Thank you (shukran),

As-Salāmu `Alaykum (peace be with you)

    Ron Brackin (Son of Hamas)

    • Read the book and was captivated. I have travelled to Israel many times especially in the days of the 2d Intifada. However, I have learned much from the book and it explains many things I saw when I was there. Ron, I wonder if you have any insight as to whether any in the Obama administration have any idea of the subtle issues exist which makes such easy concepts of a 2 state solution so difficult. That is the religous i.e. concept that there can never be a Jewish state on presumed Islamic land? If. in fact that is the prevailing Palestinian view, what is the point? When the children of the West Bank are inculcated in the idea that Jews are pigs and monkeys and that the land they live in is not theirs to have, how is there to be any hope? I believe that people in the administration have no idea of what the complexities are. I would be interested in your and Joseph’s thoughts.

  44. EX-DREAMER appears to dispute some of the names mentioned for people buried in Hebron–near this Ibrahamic Mosque or whatever. I would not know Hebron, Israel from Hebron, South Dakota. But I did go online and found a site describing Hebron as being the burial place for the names Mr. Yousef listed, except for the name of Joseph–but then that might also have been meant. WHATEVER…it’s all the West Bank area.

  45. My dear brother in Christ Mosab
I am so glad that you are exposing the lies of Islam. I am doing my part in Brazil. I have a small blog where I also expose the true face of Islam. http://rafik-rafikresponde.blogspot.com/

May the Lord bless you and keep you safe.

  49. Dear Mosab and others,

If you are interested to hear about Another incredible man of God in the midst of the Middle East conflicts that radically changed my life, you should learn about Derek Prince…here are some excerpts from his testimony:

In 1940, just before the first German bomb was dropped on England, Derek Prince was summoned to appear before a tribunal to declare his willingness to bear arms. He decided he could not. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the Royal Army, as a noncombat soldier. Before enlisting in the army, Derek realized that he would not have much room in his kit for books. He must think of one large, engaging volume-preferably on philosophy-that he had never read before. It must last him for months, and even be enjoyed for a second read, and it must make him a better philosopher in the end. He settled on the bible.

One night when everyone in his barracks was asleep, Derek put an army issue stool in front of the window in his room, where there was a clear view of the ocean. He was determined to pray until “something happened.” However, having never prayed before, he didn’t know what to say or who to pray to. As he contemplated this, Jesus appeared to him dramatically. Derek was totally changed by this encounter.

Derek spent his off-duty time in Palestine in RAMALLAH, at Lydia’s Children’s Home. Soon they married, and Derek adopted Lydia’s 8 adopted (Jewish AND Arab) daughters. The war had ended, and Derek was discharged from the army. Derek now entered the life of a newly married man, a father of eight, and a missionary.

WWII had ended, the whole world was picking up the pieces, settling down. Yet Derek sensed that something monumental was yet to happen. He began to seek God, to find out what the immediate future has in store.

“I knew then that my life was intertwined with Israel and that Israel, in some sense determined the history of the world. I remember feeling that whatever was next for the world, the nations would have to deal with the land of Israel. And I remember feeling how thankful I was to be there, how I wasn’t at all removed from the flow of history, but I was at that moment in the middle of biblical prophecy and at the focal point of the times. I understood that no matter the promises about my life that God had given me, they would come to pass only in connection with this land. I knew that my destiny was tied to the destiny of Israel.” – Derek Prince

Although Derek and Lydia left Israel with their 8 daughters in the wake of Israel’s war for independence, for the rest of their life, as they travelled the globe teaching the bible, they never ceased teaching the nations about God’s love for Israel and the Jewish people, and the importance of the Land in God’s plan for the world.

Here is a teaching by Derek on “The Place of Israel in God’s Purposes”:

May God’s peace, strength, and wisdom be with you, Mosab.

  50. My son asked me to buy your book for him a couple of days before being incarcerated. He finished it in 2 days, not being an avid reader it’s quite an accomplishment. The story of my son is long and why he asked for your book I don’t know and what impact it has had on him I don’t know. He’s been in prison for 2 weeks and I’ve only spoken to him twice. However, this book he wanted was left behind and I picked it up and read it. I finally understand. Thank you for your blog. In Him.

  51. Where is Mosab?

  52. Mosab,
I read your book from cover to cover over the past 24 hours. The story was compelling. My heart goes out to you for what you have suffered, and your current loneliness and separation from your family. I have been praying for you and your family, and will continue. Remember, you are not alone, because anyone who has Christ is never alone. He, too, was “a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3). He understands your suffering better than anyone else. I pray that He will give you His peace. I believe your book will affect many people. You will never know how many. May God bless you with safety and peace of mind and heart. Your sister in Christ,
    Nancy

  53. I sure would have to agree. I cannot see the “Palestinian Problem” ever being resolved by any human efforts or intellect. Rather I believe this is the perfect stage being set for the coming of the Antichrist – the 12th Imam the Muslims are looking for to resolve, and usher in the Ummah and thereby wow the world, for at least the first part of the tribulation. Ultimately and finally, Jesus the Lion will resolve it all, and then every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess Jesus Christ is Lord.

  54. We Christians should be crying for those trapped in Islam, and those who suffer persecution under that banner.

In some ways we have more in common with the Muslim than with the secularist. I think of my friend from Pakistan who at least understands that the world was created by something other than itself. He is such a nice guy, but still trapped in darkness.

Keeps these posts coming Mosab. They are very insightful. And make sure you keep your research to a high standard so as not to lose credibility 🙂 I think you have an important role to play in shaping the world in future days.

    Shalom !

  55. Mosab or Ron, a lot of us are worried about Mosab since his page disappeared from FB. Just give us a heads up, ok?

  56. I have seen a website in which this book’s accuracy is called into question. How many rekats do Muslims do in the morning? On p. 89 Mosab talks about four, but some Muslim bloggers say you only do two. I tried “googling” the issue of the rekat–which is a prayer practice that I have never before heard named–and just wanted Mosab’s experience on this…..Others have wondered whether the mentioned Audi was an error, since an Audi is “crushed” in one part of the book but still portrayed as being driven by Mosab in other parts–probably a different Audi? The Audi A4, for example, did not come into production until 1994–per the Audi website–and thus would not be the 1987 Audi that Mosab said his father drove. I have seen others question the details of Mosab’s recounting of the war that broke out in 1948 with the founding of Israel. I suppose everybody has a “side” in this, and I should just go look that up for myself. People sometimes see things in the way that best suits their politics–i.e., my side was disadvantaged, no your side was in the wrong, etc.. ….

  57. also—one more question: why do Muslims bury their dead so quickly? Some site had people disputing the reasons given by Mosab in the book–that is, they said Muslims don’t bury their dead this way out of fear of the organs being stolen. Just wondering!! I like to have things clarified.

    • Hello, Robin,

I believe you are referring to page 22 in Chapter Four which reads, “Each martyr was buried immediately so no one would be able to take the bodies, steal the organs, and return them to their families stuffed with rags.” This does not refer to a rite practiced by all Muslims. It is the response of many Palestinian families during a specific period of the Israeli occupation. Rebecca Dube provides a little background on the issue in her article, “Illicit Body-Part Sales Present Widespread Problem at: http://www.forward.com/articles/112915/.

As for other “errors” you mention in another posting, Mosab’s detractors appear desperate to discredit him but have nothing more lethal than vitriolic statements by terrorists, as in Christiane Amanpour’s follow-up to her interview with Mosab, and frivolous charges about rekats and Audis.

      I hope this helps.

      Ron Brackin (Son of Hamas)

  58. Actually it is a very easy question to answer. Land for peace will never work. The Lord God said it not me so don’t get mad at me. I believe the only truth we can hold on to that will never change is the word of God. And It says this speaking of Ishmael(Arabs)and Isaac(Israelis) And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. 12 And he will be a WILD MAN; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh (Jesus) come ; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. When the Prince of Shalom COMES AGAIN THEN THERE WILL BE PEACE.

  59. Mosab’s Shin Bet handler, Loai, has gone public at great personal risk! Read his exclusive interview with Haaretz at:http://www.haaretz.com/magazine/friday-supplement/the-handler-1.290215!

    Ron Brackin (Son of Hamas)

  60. Thank you for your response, Mr. Brackin. I googled the article by Dube–gory reading in and of itself.

  61. Beautiful! Love & forgiveness are the stuffs of heroes… and it is also the honor of a king to forgive. Let us live up to our royal status to forgive as Abba God has made us all in Christ Jesus. We are the royal priesthood in Christ! Amen!

  62. Mosab: My husband (Lebanese and former Druze) and I enjoyed your book immensely since we often ponder the question of how peace with Israel can be achieved in the Middle East. I was in Israel many times during the time you were working with the Shin Bet, doing humanitarian work for Palestinian and Iraqi children. Thanks for helping to keep me safe! Also, I believe there are many former Mulsims/Druze who have become Christians on their own and will be encouraged by this to speak publicly of their decision. God bless you, and your family in Ramallah.

  63. […] Publicado por Augusto en 30/05/2010 Will Palestinian Statehood Bring Peace? […]

  64. Mosab/Joseph et. al., I know your feelings are true but the chances of Islam disappearing are zero. The best hope is that Islam will reform from within. Very far back in time Judiasm was intolerant, Christianity not so far back was quite intolerant of other religions. Many Christians still believe that all non Christians will go to Hell. (Not a good starting point for sharing and tolerating) I pray that your search for truth will spur others to find truths and see a God of Justice, Mercy, Forgiveness who values Peace as perhaps the most precious gift. Bob Slater

  65. To Yousef – Son of Hamas:

You state: “I long for an independent state as much as any Palestinian.”

Yousef, Have you never read the Old Testament – Jewish Scriptures? Jesus taught from the Old Testament in the synagogues and in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount. Jewish Jesus kept Saturday Sabbath and all of the Jewish festivals, Passover, etc. – all later eliminated by the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholic Church persecuted and imprisoned Christians for worshipping on Saturday Sabbath.

There is no abrogation in the Bible as there is in the Koran. God is NOT a man that He should change His mind. God KNOWS the future! God’s Word stands forever! God states repeatedly in Jewish Scriptures – Old Testament that He has given Israel to Jews as an everlasting possession. From the Holy Bible, I know that anyone who attempts to give away, take or steal even one inch of God’s Holy Land – Israel – makes WAR on God!

DECEITFULLY called the Arab/Israeli conflict, it’s global jihad against Israel and the whole world. In Islam, ALL countries that are not Islamic are regarded as the ‘House of War’ to be conquered for Islam and non-Muslims subjugated under cruel Islamic sharia law where females are treated as inferior and non-Muslims have no human rights. Israel is the prize and biggest goal of global jihad.

Jews OBEY God by living on the land He gave to the Jewish people for all eternity. Jews are attacked and murdered for their courageous obedience to God.

I am deeply distressed and horrified at the venom and Jew-hate that demands the freezing of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and even holy Jerusalem and the demand for the ruthless removal of hundreds of thousands of Jews from the Biblical homeland of Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem for the SOLE REASON JEWS ARE NOT MUSLIM.

It was also unacceptable to Hitler that Jews lived in Europe.

  66. Against their will, 10,000 Jews were viciously evicted from Gaza for the SOLE REASON THEY WERE JEWS AND NOT MUSLIM. Muslims celebrated by desecrating and destroying Gaza’s synagogues. Rendered homeless, many of the impoverished Jews had to live in tents for a long time.

Now these same Jews who were ethnically cleansed are being sued for millions of dollars by the Arab Muslim workers they employed when they lived in Gush Katif, Gaza. The Muslims are suing for millions of dollars because they lost their jobs – NOT the fault of the Jews!

Gaza’s Jews lost THEIR businesses and homes. Many of the evictees have never been able to get work. Because of the enormous stress, their illnesses such as cancer and dying are higher than the rest of the Israeli population. Now their stress is even greater. They are struggling to survive. They do NOT have any money required to pay for lawyers.

  67. To Yousef, Son of Hamas:

You state: “Of what value is a violent, vengeful, arrogant Palestine or a violent, vengeful, arrogant Israel?”

I’m sad to see this moral equivalence. When PEACEFUL Jews lived in Gush Katif, Gaza, they suffered THOUSANDS of rocket attacks.

The Palestinian Authority hailed as heroes the terrorists who brutally murdered defenseless 8 months pregnant Jewish mother, Tali Hatuel, and 4 little daughters in Gush Katif, Gaza in May 2004.

Muslim killers of Jewish children are adored-Palestinian Authority newspaper al-Hayat al-Jadida called savage child-killer Kuntar “a beacon of light” and an “authentic role model.” PA leader, Abbas, called Kuntar a hero. Syria’s Assad said Kuntar was chief among honorable men and awarded Kuntar Syria’s highest medal, the Syrian Order of Merit.

Severely traumatized Sderot’s PEACEFUL Jews have suffered THOUSANDS of rocket attacks.

Opposing freedom and human rights, the US/EU/UN intensely pressure for a Muslim Terror State in Israel for the most genocidal society ever known to man. A poll taken after eight Jewish teenage yeshiva students were murdered, found that “84 percent of Palestinians support the terror attack killing eight young students in a Jerusalem yeshiva on March 6, 2008” (Poll by Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, The New York Times, March 19, 2008).

  68. There Never was an Arab country of Palestine. Jerusalem was Never the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in the Jewish Bible, not once in the Koran.

The inalienable rights of Jews to the Biblical homeland must not be violated! No one is demanding Muslims surrender THEIR top religious areas of Mecca and Medina!

In 1948, Egypt invaded Gaza, ethnically cleansing all Jews and in 1948, Jordan invaded Judea, Samaria and east Jerusalem, ethnically cleansing all Jews.

In violent opposition to GOD, Muslim Jordan destroyed 58 synagogues in Jerusalem. The jihad is against the Holy One.

When Israel won the Arab war of aggression in 1967, Jews returned to the areas of their ancestral homeland they had been ethnically cleansed from for 19 years. Anti-Israel propaganda deceitfully calls Jews’ legitimate return “occupation”.

Jews have had a continuous presence in physical and spiritual homeland Israel for 4,000 years.

All Land and Property Stolen from Jews in the 1948 Islamic Invasion Must be Returned!

  69. Arabs first started calling themselves “Palestinians” in 1967. Global terrorist, Egyptian Arafat was the first leader of this new people. Partner with Arafat for over 40 years; immorally respected by the US/EU-Holocaust denier, Abbas, financed the massacre of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympic Games.

Before 1948, Jews were known as the Palestinians.
The Jewish newspaper, the Jerusalem Post was called the Palestine Post. The Jewish-founded electric company was Palestine Electric. The Palestinian Symphony Orchestra was all Jewish. During World War II, the British army had a Palestinian Brigade made up entirely of Jewish volunteers.

After Jews migrated to Palestine in significant numbers in the late 1800s and miraculously transformed desert and swamps into rich, agricultural land, Arabs came in large numbers from Arab countries for jobs from Jews.

The fact that the overwhelming majority of Arabs resided only briefly in Palestine is attested to by a one-time special UN decree: that any Arab who had resided in Palestine for only two years before 1948, and then left, would be considered a refugee and so would his descendants!

Throughout history, people were never regarded as refugees if they had resided in a country for only two years because they were clearly citizens of other countries!

  70. Ms. Rivera needs to develop her own blog. The two-state solution would be great–but, as I think Mr. Yousef also suggests– it is probably not what some of those in Palestinian leadership truly want. It probably would not work out.

As for God giving Israel to Jewish people forever–that is another hot-button issue. Many Christians, in centuries past, cited the “blessings and curses” of Deuteronomy to prove just the opposite. But many Christians also believed the Bible said Israel would. nevertheless, find faith in Christ and/or have its country back during the times preceeding the coming of the Messiah………….

  71. The state of Israel has the right to exist and to exist in their homeland. Why do Palestinian people deny that right to Israel? Jews have always existed in the region…even though their right to have a state was taken from them- by agression from an invading emperor, later, in the same way it was given back to them by the UN in 1948. Palestinians have many countries for them to live in, what about Jordan, didnt it come to being within that same teritorry-Palestine- that was split between Israel and Jordan by the British. Arent Jordanians Palestinians as well, the inhabitants of the same historical region! And so now they want more–when given more, it is still not enough, why? Because they want Israel out of that teritory completely! There could never be any real solution here. They obviously do not accept any if it includes Israel, because like Mosab says, the issue here is of islamic nature…it is about Jerusalem and all the holy sites and it is about what their holy book says about Jews. Jews are ennemies, pigs and monkeys. They do not want them in their midst. Fullstop. It is not even about teritory… They have it plenty. The only solution here is the reform of Islam and the best solution is people of Palestine to turn to Jesus Christ. He came for everyone. First evangelized people were of that very region. It is not Western religion, American religion, Christ came for all, to save all. Christianity came from within that very so called Palestine. The only solution is that God takes over, I agree with Mosab about that. I was even thinking probably a new separate palestinian state is never going to come to being, seems there might be some spiritual obstruction as well, because even though it was offered to them, they do not want to accept it as it is, and more than that they cannot get. It just might be that God himself will not let it, because the land belongs to Jews, through so many centuries it was desolate and scarcely inhabited, seemed as if waiting for the Jewish people to come back. It s just a thought. I m neither Jew or Palestinian, I m just thinking in the light of what I read in the Bible. God does not forget his promises, he does not take them back. He did promise that land is Jewish. Only… Muslim people dont read Bible and think it is fake. They just do not know or cannot accept God is acually speaking through Bible. The solution is always Jesus our Lord.
